Guitarist Rusty Cooley received his first guitar on his 15th birthday and never looked back. During High School, Rusty took music theory classes and also attended the National Guitar Workshop. After graduating High School, Rusty continued studying Music Theory at his local college, as well as Music History and Class Piano.

In 1989, Rusty joined the local rock band Revolution. Revolution wrote, performed and recorded all original music and became one of Houston’s top drawing bands. From 1993-1995, Rusty was in a band called Dominion and in 1995 Rusty entered and won the “Guitar Master Series” winning the title of “Best Guitarist” in Houston.

In 1996, Rusty bought his first 7-string and decided it was time to go out on his own. Rusty began to work on instrumental guitar compositions and pushed himself to new levels. The band Outworld was formed in 1997 and Rusty played some internationally acclaimed shows with them before leaving in 2001.

In 2003 Rusty signed with Lion Music and his debut CD was released. Rusty was given the honor of the “7th Fastest Shredder of all Time” in Guitar One magazine.

Rusty is currently with the band Day of Reckoning, which was formed in 2010. Stylistically, Day of Reckoning has a brutally straight ahead approach that incorporates elements of Cooley’s progressive metal past.
